Memorial to wounded Nature
Concept of a temporary installation - Bachelor degree project, exhibited at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design - Stockholm (SWE) - 06/21
How can temporary installations in public space serve as valuable resource during times of collective crisis, offering experimental platforms for reflection, discussion, and action?
Memorial to Wounded Nature proposes an intervention, that transforms a paradigmatic urban landscape into a public space of engagement and reflection. The concept is rooted in a specific site in southwest Stockholm, where construction has been halted since 2017 due to soil contamination. Instead of seeing the location as a void or failure, I approach it as an active witness to environmental degradation and a catalyst for dialogue. By documenting and repurposing existing materials and objects, I develop new spatial relationships that invite interaction through play, activism, and contemplation. This adaptive approach aligns with the counter-memorial movement, rejecting static monumentality as a form of remembrance and instead embracing living spatial narratives shaped by those who engage with it.
The project aims to challenge political hierarchies and traditional notions of spatial ownership. It seeks to transform the public sphere from a passive backdrop into an active forum for awareness, collaboration and collective action.
